Forest School at Dawpool

Here at Dawpool, children are encouraged to be curious about their environment. Our unique woodland setting enables us to provide a beautiful and extensive outdoor area including a Forest School within the school site.

Located in the ‘Wilderness’, the Forest School allows children to enjoy the natural world within a safe and supportive environment whilst giving them the freedom to experience unfamiliar challenges and take controlled risks.

We base our Forest School around principles of building confidence, boosting self-esteem and encouraging an appreciation of the natural environment, seeing the benefits of Forest School across all ages.

Forest School activities are designed to complement the National Curriculum. Children engage in a variety of fun, and muddy, tasks outside, which range from going on mini-beast hunts and collecting natural objects to creative activities, digging, using tools and shelter building. These activities are successful at developing children’s physical and co-ordination skills as well as their social skills as they learn to work together and express themselves individually.

The activities enable them to experience numeracy, literacy, science and many other subjects within a practical and engaging environment. The sessions take place in all weathers and are flexible in order to make the most of the learning potential that nature offers at any one time. We provide both timetabled lessons and after school activities in Forest School.
