Welcome to Year 3

General Information

  • P.E. will be on Monday and Thursday afternoon, so please ensure your child has a P.E. kit in school.
  • Spellings will be set on a Friday.  A spelling test will take place the following Friday.   
  • Maths homework will also be set on Friday and the activity will match to the week’s topic.

Science – Hardness of rocks using the scratch test.

Geography/History – William Morris art.

Art- Finishing Easter cards and baskets.

Science – Igneous rocks and how they form.

Geography/History – Newspaper report on Alexander Bell.

Maths – Subtracting money and calculating change.

Literacy – Looking at 'Trees on Parade' and writing our own autumnal poems.

Science – Rocks and their properties.

Geography/History – School trip to Port Sunlight.

P.E. – Tennis with Miss Marland.

French - We will be building up our language skills.

Music- 'Dragon Song’ and using the glockenspiels.

Religious Education- Kingdom of God.

After a lovely half term, we have been working really hard on poetry and money.  We had an excellent talk from Heather Chapman, who told us all about Thurstaston and West Kirby during the Victorian times.  Hopefully your child has told you a few interesting facts!

Maths – Reading weighing scales.

Literacy – Features, advantages and disadvantages of email.  We are then writing our own email in role of the boy in our book.

Science – Length of shadows throughout the day at different times.

Geography/History – Victorian work life and designing job adverts.

French - We will be building up our language skills.

Music- 'Mamma Mia’ and using the glockenspiels.

We had a lovely week catching up last week.  I loved hearing all about the children’s Christmas news. Thank you again for your kindness and wishes at the end of 2017. The week started off with us predicting the opening of our new book ‘Into The Forest’. We also looked at a timeline and key events to start our Victorians topic off!

Maths - Multiplying 2-digit numbers.

Literacy - Hopes and dreams, emotion graph.

Science – Shadows- noticing an object blocks light.

Geography/History – Making Ancient Egyptian death masks.

P.E. - Tag rugby.

French - We will be building up our language skills.

Music- 'Three Little Birds' and using the glockenspiels.

Learning in Year 3 - week commencing 27th November 2017

 

Maths - The children will continue dividing by 4 and 8.  We will then move on to multiplying 2-digit numbers.

Literacy - We will be planning and writing a letter in the role of the old man in 'The Tin Forest'.

Science – Our new topic is light and we will be looking at why we need light in order to see.

Geography/History – Using hieroglyphics to write our names.  

P.E. - Tag rugby and dance.

French - We will be building up our language skills.

Music- 'Three Little Birds' 

Religious Education- God.

 

We have had a busy few weeks writing diary entries,learning our 3, 4 and 8 times table and writing a newspaper report about Tutankhamun's tomb!

Maths - The children will do simple subtraction.

Literacy - We will be creating story maps, planning a story and designing our moving toys.

Science – Which magnet is the strongest? Three tests will be done with the children predicting and evaluating.

Geography/History – Designing and making a shaduf using straws and play dough.  

P.E. - Gymnastics and tennis.

French - We will be building up our language skills.

Maths - The children will add using renaming strategies.

Literacy - We will be writing our own play scripts in groups and then performing them for the rest of the class.

Science – Which materials will attract magnets through?

Geography/History – Writing a diary entry- life as a farmer in Ancient Egypt times explaining why the Nile was important to them.

P.E.- Gymnastics and tennis.

French - We will be building up our language skills.

Assessment Week & Harvest Service

Maths – Simple Adding

Literacy – Creating new characters and understanding the features of play scripts!

Science – Design our own experiment. 

Geography/History – Fact collecting- Why is the Nile important?

Learning in Year 3 - week commencing 18th September 2017

 

Maths - The children will count in fours and eights and complete their first review of this chapter. We will move on to simple addition.

Literacy - We will be completing a character analysis of Abdul Kazam and then will look at persuasive adverts. We will then create our own persuasive poster. ‘Come to the magic show!’

Science - This week our experiment will be to see which everyday objects are magnetic using sand and magnets.

Geography/History – Journey of a river.  We will explain the course of a river and the different parts to it.

P.E.- Gymnastics and tennis.

French - We will be building up our language skills.

Learning in Year 3 - week commencing 11th September 2017

 

Maths - The children will continue to build on their knowledge of numbers looking at number patterns and sequences.

Literacy - We will looking at descriptions in detail using atmosphere and senses to write about a new circus act.

Science - This week will be our first lesson on "Forces and Magnets". The children will be thinking about how different surfaces affect the speed of a moving object.

Geography/History - Where and when is Ancient Egypt?  We will be looking at a map of Egypt and also will be creating a timeline.

P.E.- Gymnastics and tennis.

French - Our first French lesson! We will be building up our language skills.

Music- 'Let Your Spirit Fly' and 'Harvest Samba'
