Year 3 Class

Welcome to Year 3

 

General Information

  •    P.E. will be on Monday and Wednesday afternoon, so please ensure your child has a P.E. kit in school.
  •    Spellings will be set on a Friday.  A spelling test will take place the following Friday.   
  •    Maths homework will also be set on Friday and the activity will match to the week’s topic.
  •    Reading books and homework to be in Wednesday.

 

As part of our learning on Leon and the Place Between, we will be making moving toys. Your child will need an egg box or burger box.  Please send one in with your child by Thursday 18th October.  Thanks in advance.

 

Learning in Year 3 - week commencing 15th October 2018

 

Maths - The children will subtract using renaming strategies.

Literacy - We will be writing our own story- 'The Rabbit's Tale' based on a character from our book.

Science – Magnets attracting and repelling.

Geography/History – Comparing and contrasting Ancient Egyptian and modern day child.  

D.T. - Making our moving toys.

French - We will be building up our language skills.

Music- 'Let Your Spirit Fly' 

Homework this week will be reading and research for over the holiday.

 

Learning in Year 3 - week commencing 8th October 2018

 

Maths - The children will add using renaming strategies.

Literacy - We will be creating story maps, planning a story, learning direct speech and paragraphs.

Science – Which magnet is the strongest? Three tests will be done with the children predicting and evaluating.

Geography/History – European Union.  

P.E. - Dance and hockey.

French - We will be building up our language skills.

Music- 'Let Your Spirit Fly' 

Religious Education- Good News

Maths – Simple Adding

Literacy – Creating new characters and understanding the features of play scripts!

Science – Design our own experiment-Which materials will attract magnets through?

Geography/History –Writing a diary entry- life as a farmer in Ancient Egypt times explaining why the Nile was important to them.

P.E.- Dance and hockey.

French - We will be building up our language skills.

Religious Education- Good News

Learning in Year 3 - week commencing 17th September 2018

Assessment Week

Maths - The children will count in fours and eights and continue with number patterns. 

Literacy - We will be completing a character analysis of Abdul Kazam and then will look at persuasive adverts. We will then create our own persuasive poster. ‘Come to the magic show!’

Science - This week our experiment will be to see which everyday objects are magnetic using sand and magnets.

Geography/History – Fact collecting- Why is the Nile important?

French - We will be building up our language skills.

Learning in Year 3 - week commencing 10th September 2018

 

Maths - The children will continue to build on their knowledge of numbers looking at number patterns and sequences. (Chapter 1- Numbers to 1000)

Literacy - We will looking at descriptions in detail using atmosphere and senses to write about a new circus act.

Science - This week will be our first lesson on "Forces and Magnets". The children will be thinking about how different surfaces affect the speed of a moving object.

Geography/History - Journey of a river.  We will be looking at the course of a river and its parts.

Countries in Europe.

P.E.- Dance and hockey.

The Year 3 team have had a lovely first week welcoming the children in to Key Stage 2.  We have loved hearing about their summer holidays and getting to know them.  Our first music lesson got everyone using their voices and we explored timelines in Ancient Egypt!
