Year 1 Class

Welcome to the Year One page!
Please find below details of what we will be covering in our class on a weekly basis. I hope this will help you to chat to your children about what they have learnt in school.
General information
  • Each week P.E. will be on Monday, so please ensure your child has a P.E. kit in school. Also if your child has earrings they will need to be removed on these days. If not we will have to cover them with tape for the lesson, if they cannot be removed as yet. Please could the children only wear black plimsolls with non-marking soles and not trainers.
  • Reading books will be sent home on Friday and will need to be sent back into school on Monday. If they are not returned promptly we will not be able to change them for the next week.
  • We will send homework  home on Friday and this will need to be returned on Wednesday at the latest. This enables us to mark them and if appropriate put in homework for the next week. Homework may not be sent home every week.
  • Please could all the children's belongings be labelled clearly with your child's name, drinks bottles in particular, as often children have identical bottles and do not know which one is theirs.

Half Term - Mini Me Activity

We have been thinking about God and creation in R.E.  After half term, we will think carefully about how God created us and how he loves and cares for us.  To help your child understand what this feels like they have created their own 'Mini Me'.  During half term please encourage your child to involve their 'Mini Me' in activities or a playtime at home.  'Mini Me' should then be returned to school after half term for a class discussion about how it feels to care for something you have created.  We would be delighted to see any pictures of your child and 'Mini Me' together.

Week beginning: 29th October, 2018

We will also be writing a recount of what we did in the half term holiday for our assessment piece of writing for last half term. It would help the children if you could chat to them about what they did in the holiday so it is fresh in their minds this week. Our sounds we will be reading and writing this week are 'ow' (as in cow) and 'ear'. We will be playing games to help us remember them. Guided reading will continue.

On a regular basis we play word bingo in our class. The words are taken from the Year One 100 key words. This is to help us to read, write and spell these words independently. To help you to revise these words at home I thought it would be useful to list the words we have covered in Bingo. Any practice you can do reading, writing and spelling these words would be really beneficial for your child. Thank you.

Set 1.

be, made, my, the, to, went, go, for, look, in, get, he
